The centre image shows the Virgin and Child and the frame is elaborately decorated with glass beads. Nuns in colonial Mexico decorated devotional objects with imported glass beads, often stringing them on wires to make floral ornaments. Statues of female saints were adorned with jewellery made from glass beads, seed pearls, and coral.
