DescriptionThis Bizarre Silk is made of green silk damask and has a design of two columns featuring a leafy frond and flower embellished end-on-end repeating unit of column capital and broken archway, bulbous vase-like object, and curling strapwork and striped ribbon. Although this English version is more conservative in design and colour and simpler in material and technique than the Chinese export version (2010.29.1), it is nevertheless clearly based on the same design. It may be that a drawing by James Leman served as the model for the silk.
