DescriptionTiraz textile fragment. Linen tabby with band of stylized birds in silk tapestry within 2 bands of very conventionalized inscriptions. The birds (possibly parrots) are shown individually in roundels, alternating positions. The inscription has arcs below the base lines and meandering tendrils in red in the background. Arabic inscription at top: "Allah’s prayers upon him. Victory from Allah and blessing from Allah...." Arabic inscription at bottom: "Muhammad is the prophet of Allah... Allah’s prayers upon them both. Victory...." Stitching around inscription indicates that it was removed from another garment and attached to the cloth.
