DescriptionTiraz fragment. Glazed undyed linen tabby with inserted tapestry bands in purple, blue, red, green, yellow, and black silk. Tripartite tapestry band with floral ornament in cartouches between 2 mirror image kufic inscriptions. Tendrils grow from the letters and sprout buds in a style called floriated kufic.The inscription in the upper band starts at the selvage (at left) and ends at the torn right edge: "Bismillah, the compassionate, the merciful. There is no God but Allah, He has no partner, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, Ali is the viceroy of Allah...." The inscription in the lower band starts at the torn right edge and ends at the selvage (at left): "...victory from Allah to the servant of Allah and his viceroy Ma`add Abi Tamim, the Imam al-Mustansir billah, Commander of the Faithful, Allah-s prayers be upon both of them."
