This vivid Coptic tunic was woven to shape in the classical manner. It represents less than a third of the final width: the tapestry band at the left edge is actually the remains of a band that would have descended from the centre of the left shoulder. The tapestry decoration is integral, as is the distinctive looped weft fringe at the hem. Tunics of this type have been variously dated from the 3rd to 9th century.
