DescriptionThis jug (oinochoe) was made in Southern Italy in the Late Geometric period and was clearly influenced by Greek, specifically Corinthian pottery decoration. The neck decoration shows linear patterning often seen in Corinthian Late Geometric pottery, although the two fish in the central panel are uncommon. The solid ray patterns at the shoulder and at the base of the vase are also typically Corinthian, but the two entwined snakes which circle the belly of the vase are not seen on Greek vases.
