The animal's whiskers are rendered in low relief on either side of the nose; its back defined by a herring bone pattern joined at the top to a "wish-bone" in relief. On either side of the back, a pair of stylized "feather-shaped" tufts of hair form the mane. The surrounding edges and the underside are plain.

Throughout antiquity, goldsmiths used a variety of tools to fashion their products. Formers served as templates – gold sheet could be pressed and tooled over one to produce a raised figure or stylized head, as seen here.
