DescriptionThis child’s red coat is made from three textiles – the inner and outer textile and a border print – that all use madder in a discharge dye process known as turkey red. The discharged areas, where the red was removed, was then overprinted with black, blue, and yellow. The lining may have been printed as a handkerchief textile. The coat is carefully finished inside and out.
