Wealthy hacienda owners dressed with splendour in 19th-century Mexico. When out riding, they protected their legs with handsome gaiters of tooled and embroidered suede, which were secured with cintas (ribbon garters). This pair is patterned with cypress-tree designs, and finished with elaborately-beaded tassels.
