La Vie au grand air messages modern tourism, speed and leisure. It was designed and exhibited as a showpiece for 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (Art Deco exhibition) in Paris. The scale of woodblock printing is a technical tour de force and is made to the scale of an important historical woven tapestry.

The wall hanging consists of three panels of 127 X 198 cm each, with a printed and attached floral border. It depicts picnicing men, women, and children in a mountainous landscape setting featuring various modes of transportation: an automobile at left, a train in the centre distance, boats and an airplane at the right.
