I Cirri reflects Pomodoro’s large cast sculptures and prints that are worked into this textile. The lustrous finish shimmers and resonates, creating the illusion of depth. This design was first displayed at the Eleventh Milan Triennale (1957), in the section devoted to serial production, and won first prize. The Milan Triennale was founded in 1923 to promote an emerging modern Italian design identity. It aimed to link industry and commerce by placing emphasis on art and the creative contribution of designer-artists. Fine artists, such as Pomodoro, served to provide cultural recognition for Italian industrial design.
