DescriptionThis monkey stone is made out of limestone and the teeth are inlays of shell and iron pyrite. Skulls, like this one, were important ritual items with links to the underworld and may have been related to the Maya ball game. The stone was recovered from tomb B2 in Caracol during A. Hamilton Anderson's excavations of the sprawling site in the 1950s.
