DescriptionThis tiraz textile fragment is made of undyed linen tabby with an inscription embroidered in reddish silk floss. The style of kufic emphasizes the verticality of letters through elongation and the addition of “spikes.” Most unusual is the creation of the thick base line through parallel oblique stitches. Below this line are superfluous “tails.”
