The Isthmus of Oaxaca is hot and humid. According to 19th-century sources, Huave and Zapotec women wore little more than a wrap-around skirt. For much of the 20th century though, they have worn a rabona (skirt on a waistband) and a close-fitting huipil with machine-stitched designs. Ensembles of this type are sold in the local market.
