DescriptionAlthough superficially very similar to earlier products from Basra in Iraq, petrographic analysis has shown that this lustre-ware was made at Fustat, or Old-Cairo, in Egypt. The similarity with the Basra products would date this sherd to the earlist phase of production at Fustat (about 975-1025 AD)
