DescriptionFamily history records that the little girl who wore this (b. 1832) died at age 9, and her dress was preserved as a memento mori. The story is inconsistent with the cut of the dress, with a square neckline and corded sleeves, that is in the fashionable style of the mid-1820s. It is possible, however, that the dress was made up in an older style or was hand-me-down.
