DescriptionPainting in black under a transparent turquoise glaze was a favorite technique throughout the ages in the Islamic world where the ingredients, copper oxide for turquoise and chromium for black, were readily available. Some vessels reproduce the same designs found on lustre-wares, while others adopt the radial panels and willow-spray motifs found on white-ground underglaze-painted wares.
