Description

According to the artist, Faustina Sumano García, “I do this work out of love for my craft. No amount of money could cover the labour involved.” One of the most accomplished embroiderers in Mexico, Sumano García (born in 1940) has been honoured nationally with numerous awards. Minutely embroidered figures, known locally as hazme si puedes (make me if you can), are stitched across the folds of pleated or smocked cloth to form a horizontal line.
