Adzes like this one were most likely used as woodworking tools. Adzes are identified based on their asymmetrical shapes (when viewed from the side).This asymmetry suggests that they were attached to a handle or shaft with their cutting edges perpendicular to the handle (unlike axe, which have cutting edges that run parallel to their handles).
