DescriptionBased in Richmond Hill, north of Toronto, Douglas Boyd exemplified modern Scandinavian influence in Ontario. He adhered to the traditional model of the designer-maker and his pieces were completely handcrafted. Most of Boyd’s work was for the church and therefore remains largely inaccessible to the public. As seen here, the surfaces of his tablewares were without decoration, but they are enlivened visually by soft modulations created by allowing hammer marks to remain.
