DescriptionThis simple cup would not have been used for drinking, but for dipping wine out of a larger vessel and then pouring it through a sieve into the drinking bowl.  Entire sets of dipper, sieve and bowl have been found in tombs.  This, however, is a humble item made for daily use.  It may well have measured out other liquids as well as wine.
