Staff finial carved out of one piece of wood, covered in gold-coloured leaf representing a man scraping the bark of a tree while balancing a bowl on his left knee. The interpretation of this staff, found in Doran Ross 2002, reads, "If one man scrapes the bark off a tree, it will fall to the ground. The bark in this case, is considered medicinal and there are prescriptions against it touching the earth. The image stresses the need for a second person working with the first to complete the task successfully." (Ross 2002, p.98). This staff finial was purchased in a regalia store near the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi that caters to title holders in the broader Ashanti Region. This particular finial was made by master carver Boatey.
