Description

Torso of Aphrodite

This torso belonged to a statue which showed the goddess Aphrodite adjusting her hair. The original work, attributed to the sculptor Praxiteles, enjoyed great popularity in the later Hellenistic and Roman times when numerous copies and variations on the theme were made. The striations on this example are the result of weathering.
