Description

Akrolithic Face of a Woman

This female face (including her neck and upper chest) would have been inset into the head of a statue, perhaps made from wood or limestone. This technique (akrolithic, meaning "with extremities of stone") using marble, helped to make the woman's flesh appear more vivid.
