DescriptionFragment of figured silk with confronted camels against an arabesque background. Reduced in size, animals became part of overall pattern in medieval textiles from Iran. Within the lozenge lattice, one row of rhomboid compartments shows four camels, the same figure mirrored vertically and horizontally. Their confrontation takes on some aggressiveness reflecting the theme of animal combat. The compartments of the other row are filled with large floral ornaments. Brown silk warps; brown and black silk wefts.
