DescriptionEar ornaments were an important part of Maya dress.  This pair of shell discs displays low-relief carvings of human profiles that may depict honoured ancestors. Traces of cinnabar adhere to the shell. A stick running through the holes in the ornaments allowed attachment to the ear.
