DescriptionThis drum belonged to the Kung Fu dance group of Tuafo No. 1 Company, Gamoa Dago and was used in the annual festivals and important asafo celebrations. Drums are made by specialists that live in the northern part of the Central Region and specialize in musical instruments. This drum was commissioned expressly by the leaders of the Kung Fu dance group and "dressed" to match the colour scheme of the company. When used in performace, Asafo drums are consecrated with medicine. Like flags, they embody very directly the spirit of the company. They are treated like company members and given a personal name on the day of their consecration. In performance they are often “dressed” to match the uniforms of their group.
