Rights and Reproductions

Rights and Reproductions coordinates and processes requests for the use of ROM images, other digital assets and some specimen loans. Clients pay fees determined by the type of use and the complexity of the request.

Rights and Reproductions receives at least 15 to 20 requests a week and our clients include museums and art galleries, book and magazine publishers, film and television production companies, non-profit organizations, academic institutions, students and researchers.

Processing times vary from approximately two to seven days for standard requests or longer for requests requiring research.

Materials cannot be published, sold, reproduced, transferred, distributed, or otherwise exploited without further permission in writing from the ROM or the copyright owner.

Image Reproduction & Licensing

ROM Collections allows for the reproduction of the online images included in its records. Anyone wishing to reproduce these images**, copyrighted to the ROM, may place an image request via the Online Form and enter into a licensing agreement with the ROM. Permission for such use is granted on a case-by-case basis, contingent on any specific restrictions associated with image use, and at the sole discretion of the ROM.

Image reproduction costs are based on production and use fees; all fees are for one-time, non-exclusive use, and may be renewed upon request. The ROM reserves the right to apply special fees for some non-commercial and/or commercial uses.

The image collection and the underlying materials are protected by Canada’s Copyright Act, and the regulations thereunder, and by similar laws in other countries.

Third-Party Materials

The ROM has taken all reasonable efforts to ensure that materials, for which copyright belongs to others, are reproduced on ROM Collections with the full consent of the copyright owners. The ROM does not warrant that the use of materials displayed in the website will not infringe the rights of third parties. Such works may not be used in any form; they may not be copied or downloaded without prior permission from the third party.

The ROM may, in appropriate circumstances, remove, disable, or terminate access to any material on, or linked to, or from this site, that it suspects might be infringing upon a third party's intellectual property rights or other rights.

Trademarks

The trade-marks of third parties may be displayed on ROM Collections. Use cannot be made of such trade-marks without the express written permission of the third party.
