DescriptionCeramic jars with rounded bases could be set in slight depressions or on special stands, such as this ring stand. Due to this function, stands such as this are ubiquitous throuighout Egyptian history and come in various shapes and sizes, This stand is squat with a flaring base and rim. The upper rim is folded under and has a diameter of 13.5 cm. The base lip is folded upward and has a diameter of 16.5 cm. Made of Nile silt covered with a thick red slip. There are wear marks inside the rim indicating where a vessel rested. The coarse silt preserves irregular wheelmarks, which suggest a Middle Kingdom date.
