Description

The 4 front-facing 4-clawed beasts (mang) embroidered on the chest, back and shoulders, and the 8 similar ones on the front and back of the skirt indicate that the blue robe would have been worn by a 3rd or 4th rank prince or imperial duke. The mountains, waves and peonies that constitute the pattern at the hemline and above the waistline symbolize the wish for unity and wealth within the 4 seas (i.e. China).
